The bridge has now reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced with a new modern structure that complies with today’s standards for road and bridge construction.
The improvements planned include the upgrade of the approaches to the bridge by realigning the road and improving the current surface, which has deteriorated.
The design includes a footpath on the eastern side of the bridge to improve pedestrian safety.
The proposed bridge will more than adequately provide for the increased use anticipated with the significant development planned in the area north of the bridge.
By constructing a bridge to current standards it is anticipated that the life of the bridge will be 80 to 100 years.
The current load limit on the bridge will also be removed.
