With the easing of coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, Mount Alexander Shire Council will soon reopen its doors to customers at the Civic Centre and the Visitor Information Centre in Castlemaine.

The Customer Service Centre in Lyttleton Street in Castlemaine will open from Monday 5 October for limited face-to-face services including general queries, pet registrations and payments.

Staff are continuing to respond to other customer service requests and technical queries such as planning and building inquiries by phone, email and online.

The Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre on Mostyn Street will welcome back visitors on weekends from Saturday 10 October, with plans to reopen the Maldon Visitor Information Centre in the following weeks.

“We are really pleased to be opening our doors again. This will greatly assist customers who like to pay their rates in person before they are due in mid-October,” said Ms Lisa Knight, Director, Corporate and Community Services, Mount Alexander Shire Castlemaine.

“We also look forward to welcoming back visitors from regional Victoria to catch up with family and friends and see what we have to offer, while giving local businesses the boost they need right now.”

Ms Knight said Council is committed to balancing the health and safety of the community with the need to sustain the local economy.

“We have protocols in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities, and have been supporting local businesses to implement their COVIDSafe plans,” said Ms Knight.

“We have also just produced some new travel safe postcards to make visitors feel safe and welcome, while reminding them about their own responsibilities in helping keep everyone stay safe while they are here.”

Pick up a postcard at key visitor outlets and local accommodation providers.

The Customer Service Centre on Lyttleton Street in Castlemaine will be open for general customer service queries from 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Enter via the ramp on Lloyd Street.

The Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre will be open from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday and Sunday at this stage. Staff are available to offer assistance by phone 1800 171 888, seven days a week.
