What are your hopes and aspirations for the Mount Alexander Shire?

Over the coming months Council will be reaching out to residents for your ideas and priorities to help inform the development of a new ten-year Community Vision, a four-year Council Plan and an annual budget.

These long-term documents and strategic plans will assist with Council’s decision-making over the next four years and beyond, and guide our priorities for resources and service delivery.

Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire, Tony Cordy, said the plans are important in setting the strategic direction of Council in the coming years.

“One of the biggest priorities for any newly elected Council is the development of a Community Vision and Council Plan, and we want you to be part of the conversation”, said Mayor Cordy.

“It doesn’t matter which town you live in across the Shire, if you work for a local business, are a student at one of the local schools, or a member of a local community group or club.

“It’s about making sure we capture what our community values most, and information about your priorities for the Shire”.

To help prepare for this important project Council recently adopted a new Community Engagement Policy to guide the engagement process. This will help ensure the consultation is transparent, inclusive and accessible, while meeting the requirements of the new Local Government Act 2020.

Residents will be invited to share their feedback in a variety of ways, including in-person, via phone and online through a new interactive platform that’s designed to offer a more flexible and engaging way for community participation.

“We’ll be promoting opportunities to contribute through our networks, local media and community newsletters - so keep an eye out and get involved”, said Mayor Cordy.

Community Vision and Council Plan:

Under the Local Government Act 2020 Council must adopt a Community Vision and Council Plan by 31 October 2021.

The Community Vision is a long-term vision that captures what people value most about their community with key priorities and aspirations for the future.

The Council Plan is a four year plan outlining how Council will play a role in meeting the Community Vision and its strategic objectives to achieve this.

This is supported through the development of an annual budget that sets out income and expenditure to support implementation of the Council Plan.
