Paying your rates

Your rates at work

Council collects rates from residents and businesses in the municipality to help fund local services like maternal and child health, aged care, waste collection, library services, recreation and leisure facilities, plus the maintenance of local roads, bridges, footpaths, drains, parks, playgrounds and much more.

How to pay your rates

Your rates are due in four instalments throughout the year. You can pay your rates online, by direct debit, by phone or in person.

Due dates

Rates instalments are due on the following dates:

• 30 September
• 30 November
• 28 February
• 31 May

You can also choose to pay your rates up front but need to ensure this payment is made by the first instalment date.

Reminder notices for the instalments are sent out at least two weeks before each due date. Interest at 10% will be charged on all rates payments that are overdue.

Direct Debits

Please use our online Direct Debit Application form if you would like your rates to be automatically deducted from your nominated bank account.

Receive your rates notice by email

With eNotices you can self-manage your properties, send notices to multiple email addresses, print additional copies, and view your notices online at any time.

1. Go to
2. Enter in your email address and eNotices Reference Number (you can find this on your rates notice)
3. Check your email inbox and click the validation link.
4. Select a password and enter your mobile number.

Receive your rates notice online

Sign up to BPAY View to receive your rates notice online via your internet banking service.
1. Log in to your internet banking service.
2. Look for the BPAY View or View Bills link
3. Select Mount Alexander Shire Council (Biller Code: 41749)
4. Enter the BPAY Reference from your bill and your name (exactly as shown on your rates notice).

Request a copy of your rates notice

If you would like to request another copy of your rates notice, then please submit a request via our Rates Enquiry Online Form.

Change of address

Don't forget to keep your contact details up-to-date. You can update your mailing address, name or occupier details via our online form.

Any changes to name or owner details will require proof such as marriage certificate or a copy of the new title.

Pension rebates

To find out whether you are eligible for a Pension Rebate, please read the Concessions and Benefits page on the Health and Human Services website. To apply for the rebate complete the Municipal rates concession application form available at the bottom of the DHHS webpage and email it through to Council at Contact us for more information.

How are my rates calculated?

Your rates are based on the valuation of your property.

Having difficulty paying your rates?

If you are experiencing difficulty paying your rates, Council can assist with special payment arrangements.

Please contact our Collections Officer on 5471 1849 to discuss this further.

You can also read our Financial Hardship Policy which outlines how Council can assist ratepayers undergoing financial hardship.

Our COVID-19 Financial Hardship Policy also seeks to provide guidance and support to all ratepayers, businesses and residents within the shire who are experiencing temporary financial hardship due to the impacts of COVD-19. Assistance is offered in relation to property rates and charges and other items such as permits, leases, waste charges and animal registrations.
