Young people in the Mount Alexander Shire are invited to participate in special activities at Mondo Lounge youth space during Mental Health Week on Friday 13 October from 3:30 to 6pm.
Youth mental health has been identified as a top priority by young people in the Mount Alexander Shire and Mental Health Week is a great opportunity for Council to address this important issue. Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Youth Advisory Group (YAG) are putting on a fun night of activities to promote positive youth mental health and wellbeing.
The slogan for this event is “Mental health begins with Me,” and the event itself aims to encourage young people to focus on their own mental wellness, reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and raise awareness of pathways to support that are available in our community.
“We just want to have fun, and think that should be the focus of youth mental health and wellbeing” said Jade Bujeya, a member of Council’s Youth Advisory Group. “There is so much overwhelming information about mental health that we thought we wanted to celebrate the positive things in life”.
This event is held as part of a series of community events and activities across the Shire during Mental Health Week from 8 – 14 October, coordinated by a partnership of local services and organisations.
So come down and hang out at Mondo Lounge, rear of Castlemaine Continuing Education, 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine on Friday 13 October and try your hand at tie dyeing, the mural wall, or just chatting with friends while enjoying free coffee, hot chocolate, live music, show bags, and free food and drinks.
