Register your pool or spa

The Victorian Government introduced new safety laws for pools and spas in December 2019. If you are the owner of a property with a pool or spa, you must:

  • Register your pool or spa
  • Lodge a certificate of barrier compliance
  • Have your safety barrier inspected and certified every four years

If your pool or spa was built after 1 November 2020, you will need to lodge a certificate of barrier compliance with your registration.

Step 1.Check your requirements

If your pool or spa was built after 1 November 2020, you may need to lodge a certificate of barrier compliance with your registration. Visit our certificate of barrier compliance page for information.

It is the responsibility of the property owner to register a pool or spa. If you are a tenant, contact your property manager directly.

Step 2.Prepare your documentation

Your application must include:

  • An estimated date of when the pool or spa was built. If a date cannot be verified, the current safety laws will apply
  • A certificate of barrier compliance (if required)

Step 3.Download the application form

Download and complete the Swimming Pool or Spa Registration Form.

Submit your application

Fill out the application form and email it to info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Step 4.What happens next?

We will send you written confirmation confirming:

  • That your pool or spa has been registered
  • The date of build
  • The barrier standards that apply to your pool or spa
  • When you need to lodge your first or next certificate of barrier compliance

Once your pool or spa has been registered, and you have lodged your first certificate, you will need to get your pool or spa inspected and certified every four years.
