Our advocacy work

We’re advocating to Federal and State governments for financing and supports for housing that work for rural places like Mount Alexander Shire. 

We are also working with the State government to have State land released for provision of affordable housing.

When we engage with possible partners for affordable housing developments, we brief partners on our community’s vision and needs. 

We seek partners who will:

  • Provide stable, long term security of tenure
  • Provide homes at price points that make them affordable
  • Design to universal standards so people can safely age in place, so that homes will suit tenants whether they are young, old, mobility impaired or living with a disability
  • Build to the greatest extent possible from sustainable materials so they have minimum ongoing impact on our environment and tenant health
  • Build climate appropriate homes that support the health and reduce living costs for tenants
  • Build to meet the needs of our population, including the large number of people needing small homes.
