Amendment C72 - Mount Alexander Shire Gaming Venues 2014

At its Ordinary Meeting of Council on 8 April 2014, Council adopted the draft Mount Alexander Gaming Policy Review 2014 to guide decision-making about future planning permit applications for gaming venues and Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs) in the Mount Alexander Shire.

The Mount Alexander Shire Gaming Policy 2014 is intended to apply to all land within the Mount Alexander Shire.

This policy identifies areas in the Shire where gaming venues and increases in EGMs are already prohibited, and areas where gaming venues will be discouraged to minimise harm to problem gamblers and vulnerable communities in the Mount Alexander Shire.

Current status

The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C72 to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme. The Amendment came into operation on 21 May 2015 when the Amendment C72 notice was published in the Government Gazette on 21 May 2015.

Background to the amendment

The amendment gave effect to the Mount Alexander Shire Gaming Policy (2014), which was prepared to inform planning decisions on electronic gaming machines (EGMs) in the municipality. The amendment implements Council’s adopted position in relation to the ongoing provision of EGMs in the municipality by introducing a local planning policy specific to Gaming to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme.
