Advocacy

Sometimes you may feel unable to communicate your needs or concerns.

At any time you are dealing with us, you have a right to ask someone else to represent you and your viewpoint – to be an advocate for you.

An advocate is a person who, with your authority, represents you and acts on your behalf to ensure that your rights are upheld.

Advocates can be a trusted friend, family member or advocacy service.

We actively support your right to an advocate and will assist you to access advocacy service supports if you need them.

Who can I contact about advocacy?

Call the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) on 1800 700 600 (free call) to find out more about advocacy services.

You may also want to explore OPAN's Self-advocacy toolkit. This helps to equip you with the skills and information you need for better aged care.
