Serious Incident Response Scheme
As an older Australian, you have the right to quality care and the right to feel safe.
It’s your right to live a life of dignity and independence--free from exploitation, violence or abuse.
The Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) is a government initiative to help prevent and reduce abuse and neglect of people receiving Commonwealth-subsidised aged care.
The SIRS focuses on older Australians’:
- Safety
- Health
- Wellbeing
- Quality of life
As an aged care provider, we take your safety and wellbeing seriously and take action to prevent incidents.
We use an incident management system to improve the way we prevent and deal with any incidents. We’re also required to tell the Commission when reportable incidents happen.
If a serious incident happens while you are receiving care from us, we will:
- Check that you and others are okay
- Talk to you about what happened and work with you to resolve the issue
- Record what happened so we can learn from the incident and improve our practices
- Report the incident to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission if appropriate.
