Maldon Athenaeum Library

Established in 1863, the Maldon Athenaeum Library began as a Mechanics’ Institute and has operated almost continuously since then. The library has an extensive collection of books, both fiction and non-fiction and includes a children’s library. Membership is available, for a small annual fee, to residents from Maldon and surrounding areas

As a small independent community lending library, run by volunteers, we are dedicated to providing local residents with a friendly and comprehensive library service. We are about more than just gaining information and knowledge, seeking personal improvement, and building on our literacy skills. We are also about relaxing, just sitting and reflecting, reading a book, listening to a story or even sometimes, making a noise. Libraries are about making connections between people, exploring and sharing ideas and developing friendships through these interests. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome.
