A zero waste shire
Council recognises the need to support our community in transitioning towards zero waste, and develop a resilient, circular economy.
We support community initiatives
- We're exploring new zero waste opportunities through the development of our upcoming Waste and Economic Development strategies.
We're reducing waste
- We focus on reducing waste where possible, such as installing street furniture made of recycled plastic and timber by-products.
We're planting
- We plant Indigenous plants and climate-appropriate plants, where possible.
- Prunings are recycled as woodchips for mulching.
- When removing trees, we arrange for someone to mill and reuse the timber, where possible.
We're working with local businesses
- Local businesses play a crucial role in our circular economy
- We communicate with businesses fortnightly with opportunities and advocacy.
- We promote Federal and State initiatives, and businesses are encouraged to take up opportunities.
- We promote links with local community initiatives.
