Filming and photography
Mount Alexander Shire offers a rich array of historic streetscapes and natural landscapes that offer an attractive and unique array of filming and photography opportunities.
Do I need a permit?
You need to apply for a permit to film if you wish to use Mount Alexander Shire’s managed land. Including, roadways, parks and gardens, bushland, sporting grounds, footpaths and laneways for your film or photography shoot (including the use of drones).
Type of projects that require a permit are still photography, television, feature films, advertising and television commercials, documentaries and music videos.
Apply for a permit
Allow 10 working days for your permit to be processed.
Please have the following documents ready before applying:
- Proposed filming location/s
- Copy of Public Liability Insurance policy. Filming – minimum $10 mill. Photography stills – minimum $5 mill.
- Production Safety Report
- If using a drone, the launch locations and operation accreditation

Private or public land that is not managed by Council
Council permission is not required when filming on private or public land that is not managed by our Council; however, we strongly advise submitting an application to see if other permits or permissions may be needed.
