This project will see Castlemaine Botanical Garden’s entire walking/cycling track be lit all the way with new lighting.

Project summary

Council has secured funding from the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program to light the entire walking/cycling path at the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens.

The lighting will be installed along the path’s western perimeter and along sections running parallel to Froomes Road and Walker Street, ensuring it is well lit for users along the entire loop.

Project aims and outcomes

Castlemaine Botanical Gardens is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register as being of historical, scientific, social and aesthetic significance. It is also one of the shire’s most visited destinations. The looping path is a popular circuit for runners, wheelers, walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities. Heritage Victoria has approved a permit for the works to install the lighting which will be carried out by local contractor R&R McClure Excavations Pty Ltd.

The works consists of 31 additional lighting poles that are similar to the ones currently installed along the eastern path. These lights have been approved by Heritage Victoria and utilise energy efficient LED technology. The lights will boost safety and amenity for park users in the early mornings and at night.
