As part of Mount Alexander Shire Councils commitment to maintaining and upgrading our footpath networks to ensure accessibility throughout the shire, Berkeley Street between Kennedy Street and Barker Street in Castlemaine has been identified for the construction of new footpath segments.

Project background

This project will deliver a safe footpath on the northern side of Berkeley Street between Kennedy Street and Barker Street, connecting Castlemaine Kindergarten to Castlemaine North Primary School into the town centre and towards Castlemaine Railway Station.

The proposed works include the construction of concrete footpath and drainage works.

Where are we now?

Designs have been completed by Council’s design consultant for the construction of the new footpath.

Council have finalised the preferred tenderer for the construction works. The contract for the construction works has been awarded to Dredge Earthmoving Pty Ltd. 

 

What happens next?

Construction works are expected to commence in late April or early May 2025. Letters will be sent to residents prior to the commencement of construction works to provide relevant information and updates.

Project funding

This project is funded through a co-contribution from Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and Mount Alexander Shire Council.
