Footpath Design Program 2022 - 2023

Council is committed to maintaining, rehabilitating and upgrading infrastructure in an efficient and timely manner. Footpath design projects are scheduled in line with the Walking & Cycling Strategy and the annual Footpath Design Program of community identified footpaths adopted by Council.

These projects aim to increase accessibility around the shire and promote active transport usage.

Community identified locations

We identified three footpaths for design in the 2022-2023 financial year. Below are the list of footpaths which have been designed as part of the 2022-2023 footpath design project.

  • Berkley Street, Castlemaine (Between Kennedy Street and Barker Street)
  • Franklin Street, Guilford (Northern side between Midland Hwy (Fletcher Street) and Turner Street)
  • Doveton Street, Castlemaine (Northern side between Kennedy Street and Hargraves Street)

Detailed location maps are available on SHAPE Mount Alexander.

Project summary

The designs completed in this project will help inform future footpath construction projects.

These projects will provide greater connectivity between the town centres and surrounding areas. This includes connecting the Castlemaine Kindergarten and Guildford Primary School to existing major pedestrian footpaths.

Project aim and design considerations

Council aims to design footpaths to connect key activity areas/centers in the shire:

  • This includes connections to the Castlemaine Kindergarten
  • Castlemaine Railway Station
  • Guildford Primary School
  • Town Centers of Guildford and Castlemaine

These footpaths aim to improve the safety of students and young families to promote active transport and will link into the existing footpath networks.

Design considerations about crossing points on main roads and have been listed for consideration in future footpath design works.

Where are we now?

The final design review has been completed and the designs will now be included as potential footpaths for construction in the coming year's budgets.
