Froomes Road bridge strengthening

We have improved the existing single-lane bridge on Froomes Road in Castlemaine. 

Project summary

Council has previously flagged Froomes Road bridge for replacement.

Following extensive community consultation and further engineering and traffic assessments, Council at its December 2022 meeting moved a motion to strengthen the existing bridge, and install traffic calming measures along Froomes Road.

Council is undertook basic maintenance works to the bridge to prevent further deterioration of the structure.

  • Replacement of the existing pavement on bridge deck and approaches
  • Repairs to bridge barrier railing and approach guard railing
  • Repairs and maintenance to the existing support beams
  • Repairs to the existing central concrete pier
  • Rock beaching/Scour protection to the existing abutment block works
  • Vegetation trimming and removal of growth within the abutments of the bridge

What happens next

The maintenance works on the bridge are now complete Council will continue to monitor the structure and load limits following the completion of these works.
