Rating Strategy 2022-2027

This document provides a strategy for the future rating of properties in the Mount Alexander Shire. It considers issues in the current rating system, options available under existing legislation, and considers how to achieve a fair and equitable outcome for all ratepayers.

The impact for ratepayers will be determined based on their land use and valuation. Changes implemented in this review of the strategy include the gradual reduction of the farm rate from 100% to 80%, and the eventual phasing out of the land management rate, as well as changing the definition of the commercial rate to include residential properties that are used predominantly for the purposes of short-term rental accommodation.

The strategy was adopted at the 21 December 2021 Council meeting.
