16 community groups receive funding for local events

Newstead Live, The Maine Game and Taradale Mineral Springs Festival are some of the events to receive funding through the latest round of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Event Grants program.
Council has awarded 16 community groups funding to deliver events across the shire that foster connection and community.
One of the events that this round of funding will support is Castlemaine Idyll, an annual talent contest featuring local artists, a professional band and celebrity judges.
Another event to receive funding is Alchemy of Gold, a three-day series of lectures, workshops and field trips exploring goldrush history and its transformative effect on Victoria.
Some of the other events include Mount Alexander Tastes Showcases, Castlemaine Fringe, Castlemaine Community Bush Dance and Rotary Castlemaine’s Art Show.
“Lot19 is so grateful for the support given to Castlemaine Idyll through the Mount Alexander Shire Council Event Grants program,” said Fionna Allan from lot19.
“The financial (and moral!) support helps us deliver an uplifting event to our community, and produce a day full of smiles, music, good vibes and togetherness!
“Castlemaine Idyll is lot19's primary fundraiser, which in turns supports lot19 (a non-profit organisation) to provide studio spaces, events, workshops, art gallery and more for folks in Mount Alexander Shire and beyond. See – this grant really goes such a long way!”, said Fionna.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Director Corporate Services, Julie Landy, said that Council is proud to support local events through this program.
“We have so many talented and passionate people in our shire,” said Ms Landy.
“The local events they host add to the creativity, connectedness and energy that makes our shire so unique.
“Congratulations to all recipients from this round, I’m looking forward to seeing these events bring our shire to life.”
