Battle of the Bands on the lookout for young musos
Published on 18 July 2023
Applications are now open for Battle of the Bands, an annual music competition for young people in Mount Alexander Shire.
Battle of the Bands gives young musicians an opportunity to perform in a supportive and safe environment, while competing for a $500 prize.
The competition is organised by Council’s FReeZA Committee, Eight Metre Speaker, and is open to bands, duos and soloists of any music style.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Youth Activities Officer, Jodie Hearn, said that Battle of the Bands is a fantastic opportunity for young people to perform in a professional setting.
“Battle of the Bands is a platform for young musicians to experience what it’s like to perform live, connect with like-minded peers and potentially win some money to help with musician cost,” said Ms Hearn.
“It’s also a great evening at the iconic Theatre Royal, which makes the competition all the more special.
“We have a very talented musical community in Mount Alexander Shire and I’m looking forward to seeing what I know will be some incredible performances.”
To be eligible, musicians must be aged 12-21, and live, work or study in Mount Alexander Shire.
Applications close on Tuesday 1 August at 4.00pm.
Battle of the bands will take place on Friday 25 August at Theatre Royal.
Download an application form at www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au or pick up a hard copy from Mondo Lounge Youth Space on Friday and Wednesday afternoons from 3.30pm-6.00pm.
