Call for volunteers for community Christmas lunch
Published on 31 October 2023
Want to make a positive difference in someone’s life at Christmas? Volunteer your time at the Castlemaine Community Christmas Lunch.
Presented by Castlemaine Community House with support from Council, the lunch is an annual free celebration open to all Mount Alexander Shire residents.
Held each year on Christmas Day, the event is a great way to come together, connect with the community, and enjoy the season’s festivities in a friendly environment.
Volunteers are needed for the following tasks:
- kitchen/meal preparation
- hall and table decoration
- gift wrapping
- driving/transportation
- wellbeing support
- guest greeting and registration
- take away support
- activities
- pack up/cleaning.
Christmas Community Lunch volunteer, Rohan Jones, said that volunteering offered an opportunity to connect with other residents.
“I volunteered with the lunch so I could help to provide support for people in my community who needed it over Christmas,” said Mr Jones.
“On the day I helped set up the hall by working with other volunteers to locate extra guest dining tables, putting dining tables up, setting tables with Christmas decorations, and wrapping presents.
“I enjoyed the feeling of being able to help, and to also meet other members of my local community.
“I recommend volunteering for the Christmas Community Lunch to anyone who has the time.
“This might be to make a positive difference to local people's lives at Christmas, and to connect with other people in the community through community service,” said Mr Jones.
