Celebrate our community at the 2025 Australia Day Awards

Do you know an inspiring resident who goes above and beyond to support their community?
Nominate them for a 2025 Australia Day Award.
Australia Day Awards acknowledge individuals who have made a difference to the people around them by contributing their time and skills towards their community.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll, said that the Australia Day Awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the amazing people in our community.
“The awards are an important part of our Australia Day – Survival Day celebrations,” said Mayor Driscoll.
“We have so many incredible residents in our shire that have such a positive impact on the people around them.
“These awards are just one way we can stop and thank them for their hard work and generosity.
“I encourage everyone to have a think about who has a positive impact on our community and put their name forward for an award.”
Australia Day Awards categories are:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year – nominee must be over 65 years of age on 26 January 2025
- Young Citizen of the Year – nominee must be under 26 years of age on 26 January 2025
- Event of the Year – this includes online events
Eligible nominees must:
- live in Mount Alexander Shire
- be an Australian citizen
- have given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Nominators are asked to:
- outline the nominee’s contribution to the community
- list the nominee’s other significant contributions and/or achievements
- explain ways the nominee has demonstrated excellence in the community
- add other relevant background details
- provide details of another person who can be contacted about the nominee.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s 2024 Young Citizen of the Year, Claire Mitchell, said receiving the awards was an unbelievable honour.
“What truly stood out for me was the chance to meet so many inspiring people and groups who are really making a difference in our community.
“Hearing their stories was an eye-opener to all the good work that can sometimes fly under the radar.
“The day was filled with such genuine support and warmth, making it a huge celebration of everyone’s contributions.
“I’d wholeheartedly encourage people to nominate someone who’s making a positive impact, as it really is such a meaningful way to give a shout-out to those who truly deserve it.”
To nominate someone for an Australia Day Award, complete the nomination form online www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/AustraliaDaySurvivalDay, pick up a hard copy form from the Castlemaine Civic Centre, or request a hard copy form be sent to you via post by calling 5471 1700.
Nominations close at 5.00pm on Monday 2 December.
Award winners will be announced on Sunday 26 January 2025 at the Australia Day – Survival Day community event.
