Have your say on proposed rail trail

We’ve partnered with Central Goldfields Shire Council and community group Castlemaine-Maryborough Rail Trail Inc. to determine the feasibility of a shared trail between Castlemaine and Maryborough.

The proposed trail is 55km and passes through the communities of Campbells Creek, Guildford, Newstead, Moolort and Carisbrook.

A survey is now open to the community, which aims to evaluate the business case for the trail, and to provide recommendations about the trail alignment, design and management. It will also gather information about community attitudes and expectations.

The survey will be open until Friday 23 June and can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/cmrailtrail.

New public artwork unveiled in Newstead

Have you seen the stunning new public artwork outside the supermarket and bakery in Newstead?

It features a range of designs sandblasted in stone discs, and represents the area’s flora and fauna, First Nations People, art and culture, community, and history.

Artists Uncle Rick Nelson, Roger McKindley, Julie Patey, Carol Porter, Chrisanne Blennerhassett and Bob Clutterbuck are to thank for their original and inspiring designs.

Stop by the corner of Lyons and Panmure Streets in Newstead and take a look at the new artwork.

This project is a collaboration between Council and the Newstead community, and is a great example of the good things that can
happen when Council and the community work together.

Shire-wide cat curfew in place

Did you know there’s a cat curfew in place in Mount Alexander Shire?

This means that cat owners are required by law to keep their cat confined to their property from sunset to sunrise.

We know our community love their pets. The curfew will help to reduce the risks associated with allowing cats to roam outdoors,
including reducing the chance of them breeding, fighting, becoming injured or killing wildlife.
