Council awards funding for exciting community projects

A radio series on menopause, a seed library celebration and a map of the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens are some of the projects being funded through the latest round of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Community Grants program.
Seventeen community groups will share in almost $50,000 in funding to deliver projects that foster connection and community.
Harcourt Progress Association will use their funding for an agricultural fence. This will improve safety, grow edible vines and generally enhance their Green Hub project.
Castlemaine Seed Library is celebrating their 10th anniversary, and will use their funding to commission a new board and cabinet from a local shed.
WeStitch will use theirs to support the creation of community-based artwork for the new Castlemaine Safe Space.
“Community groups and clubs are the heart of our shire, and we want them to feel supported in all the positive work that they do,” said Mayor Annear.
“One of the ways we support them and their projects is through our Community Grants program.
“We’re funding an exciting variety of project this round, all of which aim to connect and strengthen our community.
“Congratulations to all our grant recipients. I’m excited to see these amazing projects come to life.”
Council offers two rounds of Community Grants every year. The next round of grants opens on Monday 14 July.
