Mount Alexander Shire Council is proud to announce that it is the approved provider of veteran home care services for eligible residents in the region.

Council recently signed a contract to lead the delivery of veteran home care services from the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Nearly 50 veterans and/or war widows in both Mount Alexander Shire and Central Goldfields Shire receive the service, which includes domestic help, personal care, respite care, and home and garden maintenance.

June Gillespie in Maryborough spoke highly of the service she receives.

"It is excellent the support I receive,” said June. “The staff are so friendly and great at their job. I'm very happy with Mount Alexander Shire Council.”

Council’s Manager Community Wellbeing, Rosalie Rogers said it was a significant step in the evolution of Council’s commitment to care for older residents.

“It’s been nearly a year since Councillors resolved to continue to provide aged care services in our shire.

“Part of our long-term business plan for aged care services includes looking for opportunities to deliver extra services.

“Signing the contract with the Department of Veteran Affairs is an exciting first step in that process.”

“For current clients, the veteran home care service won’t look any different. Excitingly, it means we are now able to open up that offer to clients outside the shire, such as Maryborough.

“Our staff are committed to the job and look after our older residents really well – those factors contribute to making it an excellent service, and one that people can rely on, and do rely on.”
