Do you want to help improve access and inclusion for people with a disability in the shire?

Express your interest in becoming a member of the new Disability Inclusion Advisory Group with Mount Alexander Shire Council.

The Mount Alexander Disability Inclusion Advisory Group (DIAG) will support Council to implement actions from the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2023-2027, and help to ensure that Mount Alexander Shire is a welcoming and inclusive place for people of all abilities.

The advisory group aims to provide Mount Alexander Shire Council with guidance and information on the issues facing community members living with all forms of disability and provide opportunities to acknowledge and/or address them collaboratively.

The group will be comprised of community members living with a disability, people caring for someone with a disability, service providers, and people who have specialist knowledge or interest in disability issues.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll said the group will have an opportunity to improve inclusion across the shire.

“The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2023-2027 was developed following significant consultation with people with disabilities, their carers and families, and disability advocates and allies in our shire.

“That knowledge was invaluable for Council - it gave us insights and an understanding of what life is like for people in our community with a disability, or who care for someone with a disability

“We want to continue to involve our community and those with a lived experience in the next step of the plan’s life - ensuring we’re continuing to meet the needs of community members.

“This is an exciting opportunity for locals keen to make a real difference to the lives of others,” said Mayor Driscoll.
