Council celebrates the festive season with Christmas Grants
Published on 20 September 2023
Every December Mount Alexander Shire celebrates Christmas with decorations, music and community events.
For the second year, Mount Alexander Shire Council is offering Community Christmas Celebration Grants to help towns across the shire celebrate the festive season. We have also extended these grants so that our larger towns can also get involved.
The grants can be put towards outdoor decorations, community events, Santa visits and other celebrations.
The following grants are available:
- $1000 or $500 available for small towns including Harcourt, Chewton, Campbells Creek, Guildford, Taradale, Elphinstone, Faraday, Fryerstown, Baringhup, Sutton Grange and Metcalfe.
- A total of $2,500 each for Maldon and Newstead.
- A total of $5,000 available for Castlemaine.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Rosie Annear, said that these grants are a great way for Council to support the shire during Christmas.
“Our communities always puts on great celebrations for Christmas, and these grants will help our towns spread the festive cheer”, said Mayor Annear.
“The grants can be put towards events, decorations, hampers, live music, catering or anything else you can think of!
“Last year, we saw some of our small towns host barbecues, a petting zoo, local music, family picnics, and of course, a visit from Santa!
“For smaller towns, there’s one grant available per township, so make sure you speak to the other community groups in your town before you submit an application.”
“Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year and I can’t wait to see our shire come to life.”
