Trust Advisory Committee appointed in 2024

Mount Alexander Shire Council has formally appointed six members to the inaugural Mount Alexander Affordable Housing Trust Advisory Committee.

Council established the trust as an independent charitable organisation in June 2024 to hold land and money to be used for affordable housing solutions.

And now the newly established advisory committee will support the trust to deliver local affordable housing options.

Selected for a range of skills and experiences, the committee members are responsible for making sure any affordable housing options coming out of the trust are informed by local community need and objective evidence, balanced, inclusive and fair.

Council welcomes the following committee members:

  • Delphine Laboureau-Ormancey
  • Gary McClure
  • Jacqui Watt
  • Laura Keogh
  • Liam Wilkinson
  • Natasha Williams

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Housing Solutions Broker, Clare Richards, congratulated the new members of the committee.

“Setting up the committee is the next step in getting the trust off the ground,” said Clare.

“I’m really pleased to start working with the committee, and I know their skills and knowledge, as well as their passion and enthusiasm, mean the trust is well supported.

These members have a diverse range of skills and experiences, and it’s their responsibility to:

  • advise on affordable housing needs and opportunities in the shire
  • represent the community in an inclusive way that accounts for all affordable housing needs
  • provide advice on potential projects, donation and funding opportunities in and for the community.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll, said that Council is committed to addressing affordable housing locally.

“We know that affordable housing is an issue in our shire and we’re working hard to rectify this problem.

“The trust is one of the things we’re doing to create practical and sustainable change in our community, and it’s going to make a big difference long-term.

“It’s great to see the formation of the advisory committee and know that the trust is growing from an initial idea to an initiative that can affect real change.

“Congratulations to our six members, we’re about to do some important work together.”
