Do you have an idea for a community-centred project or event? Apply for the next round of Council grants to get it up and running.

Mount Alexander Shire Council offers two grant programs: Community Grants and Event Grants.

The Community Grants program opens on Monday 22 January and supports local groups and individuals who are developing new and emerging projects.

Two funding streams are available: small grants, which are up to $3,000 and partnership grants, which are up to $10,000.

The Event Grants program opens on Monday 19 February and supports groups who are running public events.

There are three funding streams available: $1,000, $2,000 and $3,000.

The last round of Community Grants saw 16 groups benefit from the program including the Maldon Toy Library, the Castlemaine Women’s Shed and the Castlemaine Institute’s online plant library.

Another 18 groups benefited from the last round of Event Grants including the Metcalfe Music Bash, Arts Open and The MAIN Game.

Event Grant recipient, MainFM, used their grant for The MAIN Game.

“The MAIN Game is a major fundraising initiative for 94.9 MainFM which has become a much-loved fixture on the Castlemaine calendar that the whole family can enjoy,” said Sue McLennan, MainFM’s Sponsorship Manager.

“Football and creative arts and industries are not traditionally aligned but we aim to bridge that gap by providing live entertainment during the footy match.

“The MAIN Game is interspersed with live performances with a focus on local artists who are a huge drawcard for the event.

“We understand the ever-growing need for artists to be paid for their time and effort and the Council event grant enables us to pay them accordingly, contributing to the event’s overall success.

“The grant also supports our advertising and marketing campaign, of which entertainment features heavily.”

In addition to the Community Grants and Event Grants programs, there are also Quick Response Event Grants, which are available all year round and can provide up to $500 per event.
