Applications are now open for the next round of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Community Grants.

The Community Grants program supports local groups and individuals who are developing new and emerging community projects.

The last round of Community Grants saw 16 groups benefit from the program including Connecting Country, Maldon Petanque Club, Friends of Kaweka and the Chewton Fire Brigade.

One of the recent Community Grant recipients, Inèz Deckers from Run with Inèz, used the Community Grant funds to get trained as a running coach and is running a free motivational running club.

“I always wanted to offer my program for free. I think the grant has helped to get my program up and running in multiple ways,” said Inez.

“The grant has allowed me to really make the launch of this program a success by being able to budget for things that make the program much better.

“I'm not sure if my program would've gotten off the ground without the Community Grant. The idea was always there but it definitely helped make it happen.”

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll, said that Community Grants are one of the ways that Council supports local community initiatives.

“I’m proud that Council is able to offer financial support to local projects and initiatives,” said Mayor Driscoll.

“These community projects bring people together, allow us to swap skills, look after our environment and help out those in need.

“Well done to everyone who received a grant in this last round of funding and good luck to those applying this round.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what projects come through.”
