Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting the Newstead community to have their say on a renewal of the southeast corner of Panmure Street and Lyons Street.

The corner will be upgraded to include new infrastructure and plantings to offer both locals and visitors a pleasant spot to meet in the centre of town.

Newstead residents are invited to have their say on the plans for this corner, which will then be considered before works begin.

The upgrade plans currently include:

  • new seating
  • a bike repair station
  • bike parking
  • shade tree planting
  • Newstead town street map sign.

Council’s Manager of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Karen Evennett said that the upgraded street corner will create a fresh, new meeting place for local residents.

“We have a very passionate community in Newstead, and before we start working on this project, we want to hear from them about their wants and needs for the space.

“Do you want more seating and shade? Would you like a place to park and repair your bikes?

“We’re asking the community to tell us what they’d like to see in the centre of their town so that the final result reflects both the character and the needs of Newstead.”
