Join us to celebrate International Day of People with Disability
Published on 11 November 2024
Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting the community to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) by coming along to a free event.
IDPwD works to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability. It’s also a day to celebrate diversity, and think about how we can make our shire a welcoming and inclusive place for people of all abilities.
Council is proud to support the community event, which will include a live broadcast from MainFM’s Able Radio, a silent disco by D-Tour, an accessible photo booth, the opportunity to meet people from disability support organisations, and a barbecue put on by the Castlemaine Lions Club.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Director Healthy Communities Lisa Knight, said that Council is proud to support IDPwD.
“I’m looking forward to this event and celebrating with our community,” said Ms Knight.
“IDPwD is a good time to think about how we can make our shire more welcoming and inclusive of people of all abilities.
“It’s also a time to reflect and celebrate the work we’re doing here at Council alongside our Disability Inclusion Advisory Group to make our shire more accessible for all.
“I really encourage everyone in our community to come along to this event.
“There’ll be food, dancing, a live radio broadcast, a photo booth and resources for anyone who wants to learn about what support is available in our shire.
“It’s going to be a fantastic event and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there.”
