Learn to support mental health in young people
Published on 20 September 2023
Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting parents and carers to attend a youth mental health first aid workshop.
Over the course of four weeks, participants will learn how to support young people experiencing mental health issues.
Topics covered in the workshop include:
- the difference between normal adolescent development and developing mental health problems
- signs and symptoms of possible mental health problems
- how to have open conversations with young people
- where to seek further help.
2022 participant, Edna from Castlemaine’s Over the Moon Yoga and Dance Studios, had some wonderful things to say about the course.
“Thank you, Mount Alexander Shire Council, for hosting the mental health first aid course for youth,” said Edna.
“This program offers clear guidance, in equal parts compassionate and practical.”
“Whilst our understanding around mental health is ever evolving, my colleague Belinda and I went away feeling supported and somewhat clearer about ways to be there for our students.”
“Highly recommend!”
