Jeremy is one of our shire's hard-working School Crossing Supervisors.

We have a number of other roles available, so we spoke to Jeremy about what he loves about the job.

What drew you to the role?

I really liked the idea of how the role allows one to participate with the school community.

I like the interaction with the children and parents, developing those relationships, and most importantly for me, creating a safe environment on the busy Barkers Road for the children and parents, as well as helping the children (and sometimes parents!) develop better road traffic awareness ... plus the awesome dogs one also gets to meet and pat

What is the best thing about the job?

Definitely the kids! I just love the really random things they will share with you and how they are all so well versed on road crossing etiquette ... I really love it when the children explain to parents/grandparents (and me) how to use the crossing correctly!

How long have you been a school crossing supervisor?

Time has flown so quickly!! I think it's been about four months now.

Can you think of a time when you had a funny interaction with the kids?

Most days there areamusing moments ... it's usually the younger brothers and sisters, coming to meet their siblings at school that create the most amusement ... the little boy who decided he was going to walk backwards all the way home, the younger sister screaming 'hello' across the road to her brother who was about to cross and showing him how she'd learnt to moonwalk.

What would you say to someone thinking about applying for one of the roles?

Definitely worthwhile, a wonderful way to be part of developing good road safety awareness. We provide such an important service that makes it feel that we are giving something back to the community.
