A free and local service is supporting community members to get ready for storms, floods, fires and other emergencies.

The program means volunteers from the Mount Alexander Shire Disability Advocacy Group (MASDAG), Council, CFA, SES and Red Cross can meet with you in your own home to give advice, answer questions and help you create a plan for emergencies.

At the end of the process you will have your own personalised emergency preparedness plan.

While the service is available all year round, Council recommends signing up before the approaching high-risk weather season (September to April).

The Emergency Planning Assistance Program is delivered by Mount Alexander Shire Council in partnership with MASDAG to ensure everyone in our community has the support they need during an emergency.

The program is especially suitable for our community’s most at-risk and vulnerable residents – those who face barriers accessing existing information, attending meetings and creating and implementing emergency plans.

“Planning for emergencies is incredibly important, but not everyone has access to information and resources that are available to the wider community,” said Luke Ryan, Council’s Emergency Management Coordinator.

“There are lots of people most at risk in our community, and here at Council it’s a priority to make sure they’re prepared for storms, bushfires, floods and other emergencies.

“That’s where the Emergency Planning Assistance project comes in.

“It’s important to know what to do in an emergency and we want to help as many people as possible feel prepared.

“Give us a call, and we’ll make a time to come around, have a chat and help you make an emergency plan.”
