Mount Alexander Shire Council has partnered with Castlemaine Institute and the Resilient Building Council to offer 150 households free energy efficiency and resilience home assessments.

The Whole of Home Resilience project will help identify how our community can prepare against natural hazards like bushfire, flood, storm and extreme heat.

The project will look at a range of house types, old and new, with a variety of construction materials and techniques.

Renters and homeowners in the shire are invited to express their interest in receiving an assessment which will provide professional recommendations to make homes more comfortable year-round, reduce energy bills and prepare for natural hazards.

Council’s Mayor, Councillor Matthew Driscoll, said that the free assessments are a fantastic way to prepare for the future.

“Our community has seen the lasting effects of natural disasters,” said Mayor Driscoll.

“Making your homes resilient now will have positive and lasting effects for you and your family.

“You will find out how your homes can be made more resilient to bushfires, floods and extreme heat, and how to save money on energy bills.

“We’re offering these professional assessments for free to 150 households, it’s a really valuable opportunity for our community.

“The assessments are available to both renters and homeowners, so I encourage you to fill out the expression of interest and take the first step towards a more resilient home.”

Residents are invited to express their interest in a free assessment at www.shape.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/whole-home-resilience-project.
