Summer speed limit in place along Golden Point Road

Mount Alexander Shire Council is reminding residents to go slow when driving to and from the popular swimming and recreation spot known as ‘the Res’ this summer.
In 2020, Council worked with the Department of Transport to introduce a seasonal speed limit of 40km/h along a one-kilometre stretch of Golden Point Road near Expedition Pass Reservoir.
The reduced speed limit is in place from December to April each year to accommodate the increase in visitors to the site during the warmer months.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll said that safety is Council’s number one priority while more people visit the Res over summer.
“The Res is a popular spot at this time of year and we want to make sure that everyone who visits is safe,” said Mayor Driscoll.
“We know that Golden Point Road has some tight bends and is narrow in parts, with blind corners.
“Slowing down can significantly reduce risk, particularly as we see an increase in vehicles at this time of year.
“We want to make sure that this natural environment continues to be a safe and popular place for both locals and visitors to enjoy,” said Mayor Driscoll.
Seasonal speed limit signs have been installed, and Council is continuing to investigate other measures to improve safety for visitors to the Res.
