Storm update

Mount Alexander Shire Council continues to assess damage in Castlemaine caused by the hail storm on Thursday 11 September.

The storm impacted two key Council locations: The Civic Centre and the Market Building. Both locations are closed until further notice.

Council’s Customer Service team is operating a reduced service from the Phee Broadway Theatre foyer in Mechanics Lane with the following hours:

  • Thursday 12 September, 3.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Friday 13 September, 10.00am to 5.00pm

Council is hoping that services will continue as usual from Monday 16 September at 8.30am.

All other services will continue as usual.

Council’s Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll, is proud of the Mount Alexander Shire community for coming together during the hail storm.

“While yesterday was an unexpected and difficult day, I want to say well done to our community for stepping up,” said Mayor Driscoll.

“While some Council buildings are closed for the time being our Customer Service team is operating out of the Phee Broadway Theatre foyer.

“We are here if you have an urgent need, but if it’s something that can wait please call next week when the bulk of the storm damage has been assessed.”

If residents need to speak to Customer Service in person, they can visit the team at the Phee Broadway Theatre foyer.

The team can also be contacted through the following channels:

Council is conducting wellbeing checks on businesses and residents, and would like to know if your home or business has been impacted.

Email mrm@mountalexander.vic.gov.au and leave your name, address, and brief details of the damage. Council is aiming to follow up within three business days.

“I want to thank everyone for their understanding, flexibility and resilience during this time,” said Mayor Driscoll.

“It was wonderful to see lots of community members out and about helping each other during the storm.

“I also want to thank our emergency response teams for being so quick to get out and look after our community.

“Well done, everyone. Stay safe and look after yourselves.”
