Immunisation

Immunisation not only protects individuals, but also others in the community by increasing the level of immunity and minimising the spread of infection.

Immunisation has been repeatedly demonstrated to be one of the most effective medical interventions to prevent disease.

Mount Alexander Shire Council provides immunisation services for children aged between 0 and 6 years and secondary school students.

Council visits all schools in the Mount Alexander Shire that have secondary school classes and offers vaccinations according to the National Immunisation Program. Environmental Health Officers visit the schools with experienced doctors and nurse immunisers to ensure that all vaccines are safely administered.

The following immunisations are offered to students in secondary school :

A consent card must be signed by a parent/guardian before any vaccine can be given.

Consent cards will be distributed through the schools during term one for those children who have not already received them.

Children attending Castlemaine Secondary College can return their cards on student/parent mentor interview day.

On the day of vaccination, each vaccinated student will be given a form to take home stating what vaccines were given. This form should be kept with previous immunisation records.

If your child was absent on the day of vaccinations please contact a Public and Environmental Health Officer for advice on 5471 1700.

Council’s Environmental Health Unit can provide immunisation records for individuals that have been immunised through a Mount Alexander Shire Council immunisation service for a fee of $32 (see immunisation records request form below).

Council is not able to provide records of immunisation given by doctors or other providers.

Once your child turns 14, you’ll no longer be able to access their immunisation history statement. They’ll be able to view it using their Medicare online account through mygov. They can also use the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.

Immunisation records can also be accessed via the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) on 1800 653 809. Please note there is a wait of up to 28 days to receive these records.
