Local residents are urged to head along to the Castlemaine Emergency Response Expo at Western Reserve on Saturday 22 May to get ready and be prepared for an emergency.

“Disaster can strike anytime, anywhere and the best thing you can do is ensure you, your family and neighbours know exactly what to do when faced with a disaster or an emergency,” said Luke Ryan, Emergency Management Coordinator, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“Come along and talk to your local emergency services to find out firsthand about basic CPR, home fire safety and how to be prepared for bushfires, flood and storm events.

“Learn about what the emergency services do to help keep us safe and what we can all do to help another,” he said.

The young, and young at heart will love to see the display of the emergency vehicles and equipment, and watch the SES conduct a live vehicle rescue demonstration.

Meet the first responders and find out more from those organisations dedicated to preventing an emergency or providing emergency relief and support.

Perhaps you think you could help out in a crisis? This is a great chance to come along and talk to emergency service volunteers about the wide range of roles available.

The free community event will run from 10.30am to 2.00pm at Western Reserve in Castlemaine.

Participants include the Castlemaine SES, CFA - Castlemaine Fire Brigade and North West Region, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, Forest Fire Management Victoria, the Red Cross, ETSA (Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority) and Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Food and drink will be available on the day. Gold coin donations to the local CFA and SES welcome.

The expo is arranged by local branches of the SES, CFA and Victoria Police in partnership with Mount Alexander Shire Council, as part of the shire’s emergency management planning arrangements.
